Hey, everyone, happy Thursday! This week has been so stressful, I'm at the point where I keep losing motivation, and then I'm just constantly bored with nothing to do except a bunch of homework. However, there are only a couple weeks left to go, so I'm trying my best to get through them. As of TRAIN, it has been pretty good, and I've enjoyed the calls with Matt. Every time we call, we always talk about how much easier this would all be through a person, but we got to work with what we have. I've been progressing on my paper and finally evaluating the data on the bats. Last week I sorted out some dated and shared it with Matt, I had the right idea, but I still had more work to do. He explained to me how I have to narrow the data more, instead of keeping it so broad. I'm now working on that and getting ahead on it. I hope you guys all continue having a great week and keep on pushing forward.

Hey, how is everyone doing this week? I'm glad we're all getting settled back in with everything going on. Last week was a bit rough still, but hopefully e everything is back to somewhat normal with classes and TRAIN! I know everyone is probably working ion their final essay right now; it sucks that we can work on our projects as much anymore, but at least we still have something to do. I spoke with Matt last week talking about my project and what to do. He advised me to fill a doc with a lot of information and topics about 2 different tests ill be conducting. So that's what ill be working on, for now, I hope you all find yourself safe and keep up with everything!
Hello everyone, I hope you all find yourselves healthy and happy. It has been a while since I made a blog post I don't really have much going on just a boatload of school work. In times like this, it has become challenging to understand some subjects and topics in different classes. Fortunately, the professors are here to help as well, so they make it better to deal with everything. As for TRAIN, I have been working on my research paper, it's hard now for all of us to conduct research and focus on our projects, but it is just a hill we have to overcome. I hope you all stay safe and have a good week!

Week 6: Learning more about biology and bacteria

Hey, everyone, I hope you guys had a great week! I was able to talk to a lot of people this week and learn more about different projects. I've been trying to collect more bat data, but unfortunately, this week was a tough week for me to go out since I had some issues I had to take care of, but luckily, everything has gone smoothly, and I'll most likely head out next week to collect more information. This week though, I was able to give some face samples to Burabari, its funny because we had just met, and 5 minutes later, she was taking face samples from me. It's really cool though and I loved helping out! I also learned about the types of plates the bacteria is spread onto and I even helped pour some. I hope everyone had a great week!

Week 5: Bat Data

Image
This week has been exciting so far! I finally got a chance to speak with Matt some more about the bat data, and I asked if I could start recording some data on the bats. Yesterday, Tuesday, I went out to Encanto park and walked nearly all of it. Luckily I had a lot of results, and Matt was able to use a program to identify some of the unrecognized sounds. I plan on going out tomorrow to check Rio Salado and see what types of bats there are there. After I gather the data, Matt advised me to set up a t-test and compare both areas.  This is the Echo Meter that records and identifies the different types of bats. It plugs into your phone, and it works with an app to record.   Heres some of how the app looks like while it measures and records the bat data, as you can see in the box under the red, a bat was recorded but unidentified.

Week 4: T-test, ANOVA, and Linear Regression

This week has been extremely informative for me. I've been practicing and studying all week trying to get down different types of tests. T-test and Anovas are both new to me, so I've had a bit of a struggle learning them. I'm hoping to practice some more over the weekend so by next week I'll be able to run a test on both of them. I've also met more people and familiarized myself with more with everyone here, its good to finally connect names and faces. Everyone has been kind and made me feel welcomed! I hope to meet the rest of you soon!    I took data from the book and tried to run an ANOVA test. It's still a little rough but I'm getting more used to it I just need more practice.

Week 3 Blog

I hope everyone has been having a great week so far!  This week has gone much more smoothly than last week.  I can finally begin to complete my hours every week and get started on my project.  Currently, Matt has provided me with two books, both having to do with statistics, I'm expected to learn and memorize different types of stats; t-test, ANOVA, linear regression and much more as well as how to create a project.  Once I finish reading all the books, I'll have a quick quiz to test my knowledge and preparedness for the project.  I'm not 100% sure what I will be working on as soon as I finish, but I do recall Matt mentioning something to do with bats; my main focus currently is to learn and study the books. I've also been invited to compete in a mathematics competition, part of the Mathematical Association of Two-Year Colleges.  I'm not too familiar with those, but if anyone else has heard of them, some tips would be much appreciated :)!
